Stand By was created to study and, in a way, mock modern culture. The “computer” is made of cardboard and plastic with a simple light inside that, when lit, shows a pattern on the “screen” that displays “Stand By.” The light is activated when the only button is pressed.
Stand By reflects our expectations with technology now-a-days. The piece does nothing else but blink “Stand By,” but you almost expect it to do something else because it is luring you into believing that somehow it will.
